What field of medicine should I go into if I want to eventually start my own practice?

A lot of them. PCP will do you fine.

Dentistry or Podiatry. You could with an MD in any field, but it's getting a lot tougher to go the private practice route.

Pediatrics/ primary care.....oh wait
Those two tend to have their own unclaves.....but a certain healthcare plan and other stuff in the gutters is screwing up stuff.

This. If you have the grades, scores, and research I think a derm practice would be pretty sweet.
