Does anyone know where the 'mortgages' forum went? It was listed under 'residency issues.' If no one can find it, let's start a new forum regarding this, especially for those of us graduating this year.

Thanks

That's not proper topic for this forum. That's why it's gone. You should go to real estate web sites for such a thing.

Quite to the contrary, residents and physicians are in a very unique position considering their typically high debt/income ratio yet their almost guaranteed 6-figure salary thereafter. As such, I've yet to find any decent financial or real estate sites that address our specific situation in the context of homebuying and mortgate shopping. There are a number of unique ways for residents to purchase/finance homes, and there are even special "doctor loans" mortgages. I think this makes it a VERY appropriate topic for SDN and the General Residency Issues Forum! After all, residency is often the time when docs buy their first house. And it is for this reason that there used to be a "sticky" here devoted to mortgages. I'm curious about what happened to it too!

Are there any moderators around who can answer this question?

I don't recall there ever being an actual forum about mortgages, but there probably was a sticky. After a while of inactivity, many stickies get un-stuck. If someone finds a good thread about mortgages during residency I (or another mod) can sticky it.

This is totally a proper location for mortgage/homebuying issues that we has future residents go through. There was a 'mortgages' spot here. Not sure if it was 'sticky' or not but I've been reading through it the past few weeks. It was dated back early 2004 through June of this year and had many responses and concerns. So apparently, many other 'SDNees' found it appropriate. It is also appropriate here b/c like the last person said, we as medical students have a very different situation when it comes to applying for mortgages and buying homes. We're not like the average person who comes in w/ much less debt-to-income ratios. The forum gave much needed advice about various mortgage programs out there for us, i.e., doctor's mortgages with either no money down or very low down payments and APR's. Obviously, you're not interested in homebuying and it shows. But anyway, I hope this clarifies for you the importance of having this thread.

Thanks 🙂

I bumped it. . . . last post was from July, so it was wayyyy down the list.
