What happened to this forum? Why did it just somehow collapse? Is there not that much interest in Med-Peds or are people posting threads somewhere else?

Usually around interview season activity picks up as applicants want to know who got invited to what programs, what people think, and how people match. Once interview (and rank) is over, there aren't a lot of topics that are unique to Med-Peds (topics may be more relevant to General Residency, Internship, Medicine, Pediatrics)

In a way, it's like a Med-Peds residency. There are lots of stuff common with the categoricals, but there are stuff unique to a combined program. This forum is dedicated to those who have questions unique to combined programs (instead of having to search through General Residency, Medicine Forum, Pediatics Forum, Emergency Medicine Forum, Psychiatry Forum, etc)

According to the NRMP, for the 2011 Match, there were 608 applicants, 402 of which were US MD students, for 365 spots.

For the 2010 Match, there were 661 applicants, 389 of which were US MD students, for 359 spots.

For the 2009 Match, there were 585 applicants, 290 of which were US MD students, for 354 spots.

Perhaps it's silly to ask, but how would the competitiveness of the Duke, Penn, BWH/Childrens, MGH type programs compare to the medicine or pediatric alone residencies? It seems the culture of people going into med-peds is a bit different, more public/international health interest?

I'd guess the resume caliber is similar to categoricals, but more competitive simply because there are typically 4-8 spots versus 25-50.

Though you're right MP tend to be different (way cooler!) 🙂

Also, it's debatable, but good categorical programs don't necessarily produce good combined programs.
