Hello,

I'm taking a horrendous bio course and I'm worried about getting a C or worse in it--on my post-bacc transcript that's a 3.6 thus far.

What should I do? It's too late to withdraw, and I just withdrew from orgo I this semester.

Thanks,

Tofurkey

It sounds like there is not much you can do. Perhaps you talk with your teacher about giving you an 'Incomplete' for the class and taking it later down the road. This would pretty much be up to the teacher to do this and usually requires documented extenuating circumstances.

If you've just screwn up and have taken too many credits or have been slacking off then just nut up and study hard for what tests you might have left and do the best you can.

I can't imagine most Ad Coms would be all that impressed by semester that includes a 'W' in Orgo I and a 'C' in Horrendus Bio but at the same time it probably shouldn't break you either so long as you can show that you can handle decent courseloads with a couple of science courses at a time and of course the MCAT.

I got a C+ my first semester ochem, B- the second (horrendous teacher who did not curve grades AT ALL). This was post-bacc work.

1 MD acceptance so far, and I'm still waiting on 3 interviews I had 3 weeks ago.

In other words, it's not the end of the world. As long as its an anomaly, you'll be fine.

hey tofuturkey,
many people faced this problem in my post bacc program. And guess what, after some people got Cs they were told by the advising committee that their chances had been significantly impaired. However, overall their grades weren't great. If you are getting mostly As I think a C is okay.

I had a friend drop out of orgo after he was getting a C/D. I got a D on my first orgo exam and ended up with an A in the course-- so if there is a chance to pull up your grade do it. My friend who stayed in physics and ended up with a C felt very discouraged afterwards and the rest of her grades plummetted as well. But part of post bacc is to show how you can balance a full course load, so I'd really try to bring your C up to a B-- a lot can be accomplished by a stellar final exam.
