If someone is accepted their senior year based on them finishing their degree, and a class isn't offered suddenly (or whatever reason), what happens?

Do you lose your spot? Are you deferred a year?

They can cut you if you fail the class (many schools specifically say you areaccepted based on the assumption that you complete all requirements before matriculation)

If it's out of your control, they might be able to defer you

It seems unlikely that your school wouldn't offer some sort of "replacement" class for a course that was mandatory for graduation, otherwise a bunch of people wouldn't graduate that year! I would check with your academic advisor or department chair (for your major) regarding what other class(es) would fulfill that requirement.

I think all of the acceptance letters I've seen stipulated that acceptance was contingent upon completing the degree, and if it wasn't completed before med school started, the school could recind their offer of a seat in the class. (Some schools also listed additional requirements, such as not receiving anything lower than a C in classes taken during the application year, etc.) I think it would be pretty unlikely that schools would allow you to defer because you didn't complete your degree (unless you could document unusual circumstances like a death in the family, etc.). Deferral policies vary from school to school, but usually not completing your degree is not a sufficient reason (you should have been able to find another substitute class, etc.). There have been lots of threads on deferral--a search should turn up those threads.

I love your avatar...that is all.

Ummm.... what if a school (a really good school) invites u for an interview. Then they email u saying that u haven't completed their physics requirements (which u have to complete 8 credits of by this Fall). I am currently taking a 3 credit physics class. And will take another 3 credit class in the Spring. Do u think i should go ahead and finish applying anyways?

They want you to have 8 credits by this Fall or NEXT Fall ? Why don't you call them and ask for clarification. Then you could let them know you plan to have the full 8 credits done by matriculation and see what they say. :luck:

they mean this fall. and i can't take a lab, because my class doesn't have a lab. and that's the only advanced physics class i can take. i have AP credits for intro physics but the med school i applied to won't accept AP credits.

Is there another college nearby where you can take physics with a lab (and drop the one at your undergrad)? I would recommend looking for this ASAP. Just to clarify, you need to take physics 1 and physics 2 with lab by the end of this semester and your school doesn't offer labs?? Ouch! Especially since you have the AP credit. I think you're going to have to call the med school and explain the situation (while professing your undying love for their institution) and see if they can be flexible on either (1) counting your AP credit (freeing you up to take physics 2 now) or (2) giving you until the spring to complete your physics requirement. Either way you need to start looking for a way to take the lab. Would your premed adviser be helpful??

Good luck to you... :luck: Sounds like a tricky situation...

maybe you should jus retake physics 1and2 and repeat your AP credits, it might be an easy A and youll be able to meet their requirements...

Are you sure ? That seems kind of weird that they would demand you have 8 credits of physics by this fall. You have until next August usually to finish your classes needed for med school. Tell us what school it is or call them and verify. :luck:

You can definitely find a place to take that class. The only situation where this wouldn't be possible is if the class is a requirement to graduate, and other schools do not offer it. Like if your school requires ecology to graduate with a biology degree, and they will not accept it from any other schools.

In that case, you could probably explain the situation to the dean of your undergrad and they would likely let you take it elsewhere or graduate with a different class in its place.

Yeah...if your matriculation is conditional based on you finishing a course before school starts, then it would be really really good if you found a place to take the course even if it isn't where you did undergrad.

I supposed your school might let you make other arrangements if you really can't find somewhere to take it. You'll have to talk to them as soon as you can. This isn't for this matriculating this fall right? I sure hope not.
