What happens if you fail OMM at your school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
you take it again and pay for it again, just like any other class.

it will obviously be on your record as well

Lets say you're passing all the other calsses and doing just fine, yet u cant grasp OMM...what would happen if u fail just OMM?

Are you even at a DO school? Your post history says otherwise. I've never met anyone who couldn't grasp OMM. I've met people who didn't study OMM at all and failed midterms, finals, or courses, but after practicing it or reading it over for a day, passed the retakes. It's just fancy names for stupidly simple techniques

True that.

Unless 90% of your course grade depends on poorly worded exam questions...

Yeah exactly. Most question I get wrong are because I'm not sure what's being asked. I narrow it down to two completely opposite answers (depending on what is being asked it's either this or that) and flip a coin.

As for practicals? Fake it til you make it bro. If you don't understand the concept or you can't grasp a certain technique, just look confident, act confident, speak confidently and you're good to go.

if you fail omm and can't graduate because of omm, you're doing something very, very wrong.

I don't know anything about omm but they are passing me somehow.

If you can't pass OMM, you really need to re-evaluate whether or not you should be in medical school. Next to H&P, it's hands down the easiest class you'll take during your preclinical years.

Also included in this list should be physicians and society (or whatever ethics/cultural competency is called).

I think it depends how tough your OMM curriculum is. At my school, I know several students who failed OMM theory as a class, failed the remediation exam, and are now repeating their first year.

the problem with failing OMM is it is a year long course. If you have to retake it, you just prolonged your med school career by another year or two.

some are 1/2 year

so much better i guess

where can you do only 1/2 year of omm? most schools require 2 years.

Well, they line up your entire (passing) compatriots in two ranks, all in their white coats...the Dean then comes out and solemnly with a sonorous voice reads your exam grades and the evaluation of failure....S/He then turns to you and cuts the buttons off of your white coat, cuts your stethoscope in half and as a recording of 'The Rogue's March' is played, you walk slowly between the ranks of your compatriots out the front door of your school, never to be admitted to the company of DO students every again......

You freakin' retake the class and GET SOME TUTORING, what else do you think happens?

However, take it seriously...you can get kicked out for failing a repeat class in most institutions....

I think he means that some schools, like LECOM, have four courses that are each half a year, so you can fail one and not have to repeat the entire year, just remediate. Although LECOM is so OMM crazy I wouldn't put it past the administration to try and make you repeat a year for failing any OMM course. They're like a cult about it.

If you fail OMM, you do not qualify for a DO and instead get an MD. Tough love
