What happens if you fail?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This 'unfair' test might make that image a reality for some people/bad test-takers.

Agreed 👎 There are quite a few very intelligent people who fail this exam, you know.

Ok, dudes, you guys have no sense of humor (this includes those of you who pm me with acrimonious verbiage).

Listen, look at that, laugh, and relax a little bit. You all are letting your stress prevents you from appreciating the little things in life. You are not gonna fail. You'll be all right.

Is there no one here on SDN who found that funny? Come on, help this brother out a little bit.

it had the potential to be funny
but it was poorly executed.
There was no laugh here,
more like a.. "huh, this webpage is interesting, i wonder what the code looks like"...

but it was poorly executed.
i totally agree to that. its funny cus i havent taken exam yet and i have my hopes high cus i have not got a date yet and i have an option to procrastinate it.

but without a gootnote of explanation it is hardly funny. its more like a mockery.

but now that you have clarified it .....ha ha.

So, seriously, what does happen if you fail Step 1? I know you need to pass it in order to start your 3rd year clinicals. How soon do most people retake the the exam and what are the consequences of that failure in terms of delaying things.

i don't think you necessarily need to pass it to do 3rd year clinicals. many people start clinicals without their score back. whether they let you continue on...I think most schools do. I am not totally clear on the policy, but i don't think they remove you from your rotations at most places.

There was a thread on this a while back. You obviously will start clinicals before you get the scores back, because they don't grade them that quickly. But a lot of schools apparently pull folks off their rotations (not let them continue) and make them restart again once they pass the test.

Well hopefully when you do your surgery residency, they will crush the humor right out of you.

I suggest on your surgery rotation, instead of USMLE put the ABSITE exam instead and send it to all your surgery residents. I'm sure they'll get a kick out of it. Let us know ok?

I thought it was funny. Would have been better if you just posted a screenshot of the pic, and not the webpage where you can create it. Just a pic might have led a few people to think it was real, which would have been pretty funny - in a morbid way. The webpage just makes it seem like a dry cruel joke.

In all seriousness, if you fail Step 1 Goljan comes to your house and personally punches you in the face.

For some reason, I thought you meant the FTAABS test and I was like WTF?
