Hey all,

What happens if an applicant reapplies to medical schools where they did not submit a secondary during their first cycle? Unfortunately, I burned out towards the end of my secondary writing so I didn't get a chance to submit a few of my secondaries before their deadline. If I have to reapply next cycle, would I still have a shot at those schools? Would schools view that unfavorably? Thanks in advance for your help!

Conjecture here but without a secondary, your app can't be marked complete and therefore cannot even be considered for an II. So I would think it would be as if you applied only once since there's nothing to compare to.

See below for correct responses.

This is false, you are considered a reapplicant to any school to which you submitted an AMCAS primary application.

I noticed on at least a couple schools' websites that they do consider this kind of person a reapplicant.

Like gonnif mentioned, you ARE considered a re-applicant.

With that said, I've been accepted both to a school which I applied to last cycle, but did not complete a secondary, and to a school where I completed my app at last cycle. At the former, the interviewer asked me why I might not have gotten in last cycle, to which I responded that I didn't even complete my secondary in the previous cycle.

This makes me believe that the school didn't even realize that I wasn't considered for an interview last time, they just saw the re-applicant flag and brought it up in the interview.

Thank you everyone for your input and insight! Much appreciated 🙂
