It would be difficult, to say the least. Unless your program feels compelled to hold your spot (and you get it in writing), i wouldnt lay heavy odds on your return being simple (repeating the previous year, etc.)

Whether another program would take you on such grounds is also up in the air.
 
Well, aside from looking like heartless bastards, the program may have to comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act

I think an honest conversation with the head of the program is the best place to start. You might have to repeat anything you leave in the middle of, but I would guess that they'd make whatever accomidations possible.

Depending on what the Army wants from you, you may also be able to defer activation, but it's more likely to get concessions from the med program, IMHO.
