What happens when you eat a high protein diet

Hello I have this question from my curiosity that must be answered

ok so when we eat a high protein diet like lots of beans. what exactly are we eating? is it actual proteins/peptides/polypeptides that some work in our body? if so, how do these live (aren't they all broken down into amino acids at stomach?).

if yes, then why do we eat "proteins" at all? why not just eat lots of amino acids??

are we getting amino acids when we eat live proteins, is that the purpose of eating proteins?

As you've mentioned, proteins are slowly broken down, finally to amino acids at the brush border. From here, the amino acids are taken up out of the epithelium into the interstitium and continue to the liver where they are stored for energy via catabolism or used in synthesis.

What she said. However, I'll try to expand upon this. We also consume proteins to get the essential amino acids which are obviously essential since they cannot be synthesized by the body. If you eat the essential amino acids only, you'll be fine as the non essential amino acids can be produced by transferrring the amino group to some carbohydrate.

👍 I'm guessing it's just more practical to eat things in protein form than teeny tiny individual amino acids, 😛.

We're eating all 3. Proteins>Polypeptides>Peptides>Amino Acids
Peptide is a type of bond holding together amino acids.
Multiple Amino Acids (with peptide bonds holding them together)=1 Polypeptide
Groups of Polypeptides held together by intermolecular forces =Proteins

High protein diet means faster metabolism. Proteins are mini motors in our body.

They're ridiculously small, and they need to be held together to even be visible. It would be like eating carbohydrates

Yes, we get amino acids by metabolizing the proteins we consume. Proteins are not alive, they're just groups of molecules. They contain no cells, but are contained inside cells. Really, all it is is that they're molecules just like water
