My cousin’s buddy from college is applying for dental school this year and he took a 4-credit Literature course at a community college when he was in high school. A while ago, he asked me if he should include that course in the application because he got a C in that Literature course and I said yes.

He just applied like a week ago and he said he did not include that course in the application because he thought that course was just for fun and the committee won’t find out because he did not transfer that course for credit in college.

Now, is that fair to other applicants? I personally reported all courses that I took from community college and university. I thought we are supposed to include all the courses we took from college/university?

But I suppose he is right about the committee won’t find out. :ninja:

They will do a transcript search and find that class and boot his acceptance if he go one or toss his application totally. There are services they use to check for attendance at all schools. Not to mention that English classes are required courses for most dental schools now. Odd that you created an account for your "cousin's buddy" to ask this question though

You and "your cousin's friend" are mistaken if you think the committee won't find out. There's always a chance that they may as @karanja pointed out. Your friend needs to email AADSAS, let them know about his mistake and send the other transcript. He also should reach out to the schools he's applied to and let them know there's additional coursework still pending but on the way.

That's disrespectful to the other applicants who have worked hard to get where they are and have reported all of their grades, from failures all the way up to successes. As a dentist, "your cousin's friend" will be working closely with patients and colleagues who are entrusting their health in his hands. If he's not honest enough to own up to a single bad grade and tries to hide that, you need to talk to "your cousin's friend" about re-evaluating their career choice.

I created the account about 2 months ago.. I asked because he was kind of my friend and i did not want to see him to get in troubles. 😵

I tried to tell him that he should include it even if he took it in high school but he won't listen. He insisted that it was just a course that he took for "fun"

Will it still be "fun" when he gets an acceptance revoked for dishonesty?

Except it wasn't a mistake. It was a blatant, dishonest decision to thwart the integrity of the application process. So reporting it as a "mistake" is nothing but another lie.

Well done.

Mistake was a poor choice of words but I meant let them know what he did. I talked about honesty after so I'm pretty sure it's clear I didn't mean he should lie.

Not directed toward you, but to the mythical cousin's buddy from college character in question.

Yeah... quite curious that someone's only post/thread/comment is about a "friend" doing something wrong.

AADSAAS will most definitely know. All of the courses you take can be verified from your SSN. There is no way that you can hide a course. Period. And if you do (or your cousin or w.e), that speaks very dismally about their respective character.

It's against federal law for your transcript to be disseminated without your written consent (FERPA), but it is legal for other information to be shared without your consent, e.g. schools attended, the dates, degrees attained, etc. This is one of the main services that shares that information, and almost all schools participate.

So yes, they can find out. Not every school will check since it costs a little bit for each check, but it's a dumb risk, besides being dishonest. AADSAS will probably not be the one to check, as that would be an unnecessary expense. The check would probably come from each individual school around the time they're choosing their short list, or immediately upon your acceptance of their offer.

And yes, high school dual enrollment would show up, as those classes are treated as undergraduate from the college's point of view.

Actually, this makes me wonder if I will have problems... I think I took a concurrent enrollment course in high school but I don't remember which class it was or which college/university it was through. It was 15 years ago, I don't even know how I would find out at this point!

They won't find out immediately during the initial assessment for an interview spot. But perhaps if he chooses to matriculate, then they will find out. They always have a way...

Med schools are using a clearinghouse service to verify their applicants.

As far as I know, all dual enrollment is taken on the college campus, right?

I am pretty sure you can request a high school transcript and it should tell you where you had taken the course/s.

At this point I would have to figure out which class it was from the transcript, forward that to AADSAS, have them forward that to the schools. Is that even possible?

I remember someone (a school counselor maybe?) talking to us about the option to take an engineering class as concurrent enrollment. I took like a dozen engineering classes, so I have no idea which one it was. I took all of my classes on the high school campus. I don't know if I opted for the concurrent enrollment or not. I don't think we had to go to a college campus to do it either. Our high school had so many partnerships with tech colleges, local universities and colleges, I don't recall which one it would have even been through.

If I had an offer rescinded over something so stupid I would be pretty steamed.

EDIT: Thanks to this thread I just ordered my transcript from a few of local universities / colleges ($5 per school, why not?) to see if I was enrolled in any coursework I failed to mention to AADSAS. Ugh...

Better now than never!

I think losing your spot would only happen if it seemed like you had a motivation for hiding it. For example, as a pissed off teenager during some family issues 7 years ago, I basically quit going to class halfway through a high school semester---while taking dual enrollment. That kicked off my undergraduate career with some C's and F's. It would be dumb for me to not list those now during the application process, even though I never transferred those credits. (Fortunately I never took any science courses until I grew up, so my sGPA is spotless.)

How about a second language program? I took an ELS program five years ago. I only attended to the community college two months for the ESL program. I got all A's on them. I submitted my application few days ago, but I did not include the ELS that I took five years ago. I thought that it would not count as college credits. So I don't know if I was wrong.

Not necessarily, our high school had college classes at the high school, taught by college professors from the university that were DE classes.

Why not contact your high school and see what they have. It's probably on your transcript if it was a DE class.

A community college is a college.
You received a grade.
Your grade is on a transcript.
Your transcript you did not submit.
You are wrong.

There is no reason for you to be so rude.... The poster was asking a question. If you want to get off on your own self-righteousness then take it somewhere else.

They were closed yesterday when I ordered the other transcripts (I want to get on this ASAP). I am currently waiting to speak to AADSAS about what to do next, and plan to call my high school afterward to order my transcript.

I finally got through to AADSAS and this was their response in summary:

"Let me get this straight, you want to ADD something that didn't show up? Usually people are shocked by things they didn't want to show up... What are you worried about? It doesn't show up on any of the transcripts you submitted, we didn't find it, the schools won't find it, you will be fine. If you still want to hunt down the record then you can do that and submit it to us, but you will be just fine."

I told her I didn't want to end up having an offer rescinded for looking like I was trying to pull a fast one on the schools I've applied to. She told me that I could investigate on my own, but again told me not to worry about it. She even made a note in on my application to show that I had contacted them about the matter in case there is any question.

Thank you! You answered my question.🙂 I called aadsas this morning but couldn't reach them. I sent an email to them and was waiting for their response. I think it make sense not to add something that didn't show up. Schools do criminal background check after they accept you but I doubt that the courses on high school transcripts will be a part of criminal background check. I think we did our best we could! Good luck:luck:

I am curious if the email response will be any different. Good luck to you as well!

I will post their response as soon as they reply me. If they want me to add the ESL, I will do so.
