i was wondering what happens if i do not withdraw from multiple schools i was admitted to. is there a penalty? i have obviously not made a final deicsion on my school....

I think they send your name and adress to all those wait-listed 😀

but seriously, I think schools will know that, I'm not sure about the punishment.

You risk having your acceptances revoked by the schools, obviously if each school you were accepted to did this, you would be royally screwed. You've had plenty of time, make a choice and dont risk missing out on medical school.

what if i accept at two schools and informed one in june that i do not want to start there?

Dude, just choose one.

You were fortunate enough to be accepted at multiple places, don't play with fire.

you don't choose one, they will all drop you!! call them now if you want to discuss delaying the decision!!!

OP, these schools have the capability of determing that you are holding multiple acceptances after May 15, in violation of AMCAS rules, and can revoke their acceptances. They will cut you some slack, usually two weeks, if you just got off a waitlist, or get off a waitlist after May 15. They will not cut you any slack because you are unable to make a decision. By the way, being able to make tough decisions is an essential characteristic of a successful physician.

How about you go ahead with your plan to delay a decision and report back to us what happens after that?

I have heard that if you are willing to foot the bill (pay $XXXX.XX toward tuition to keep your spot), you may hold multiple acceptances after May 15th. It's just that most people do not want to shell out thousands of dollars for a place they may not go to.

This is just a rumor, of course...anyone confirm this?

That is incorrect.

As some of us have noticed from emails we have received, the schools currently have access to AMCAS's database of who got accepted where. If you do not go down to one acceptance by 5/15 (tomorrow), the schools have the right to drop you. Now, you might be able to get away with a delay of a day or two, but do you *really* want to risk it?

I thought you have to do by the end of tomorrow, as in May 15th is the last day you can have multiple acceptances.

lol, first time I've heard about this...

So...some of the response here overtly neurotic, but you guys 'scared' me enough...I just withdrew from my remaining schools now lol 🙁

I'd guess it would go down something like this...

If you're still holding more than one acceptance on May 16, you can probably expect a phone call from the admissions offices of X and Y medical schools. They'll probably reinform you of your obligation to make your decision by the previous day and ask if there's any particular reason you felt like you needed to hold onto multiple acceptances.

Barring some sort of REALLY good explanation, generally having to do with (Y school's aid package is late or some such... in which case you should have informed school X ahead of time) you are probably going to be given a very short deadline to make a decision.

Please understand that after May 15th, they do have the right to revoke your acceptances if you haven't complied with their guidelines. If both schools were to do this, that would probably suck.

OP, please be considerate to the wait-listed applicants.

i am not sure this is something about good personality you claimed to every school you interviewed.

please consider the people on the waiting list.

no offend!!!!!

Yes. Its by the end of business tomorrow that you have to tell the schools.

I don't see how my post said otherwise?
I dont know. I am holding multiple acceptances and it's making me neurotic 😳

I'm going to say...
:troll:

You know, I agree with you. If the op still cannot decide on which school to choose, I myself would drop him like a hot potato by tonight midnight. IJS (I'm just saying).

This decision isn't going to get any easier in the coming days; you already know everything you can possibly know about the schools at this point, and it's not like the schools are gonna change any. There may not be a clear-cut "best" choice, but if there isn't at this point, there never will be, so you might as well just jump in and make the choice.

You've had a couple of months to debate the merits of the two schools and maybe a few weeks to weigh the relative financial aid offers. There is no reason you shouldn't be able to make a decision by tomorrow.

they can black mark you! just make a decision! if you can't toss a coin

It only gets worse. If you're holding acceptances after May 15; they can kick you.

If you somehow hold them until orientation starts (around August 15th); you actually have to go to each school at the same time. Naturally, the cost just to travel between several med schools is prohibitive, and at the end, all you'll have to show for it is multiple redundant MD degrees.

Make your decisions.

If you have a reasonable reason for not being able to decide, but you think you will be able to decide shortly, you should contact each school on whose waitlist you wish to remain and discuss it with them, specifically.

If you, for instance, received an admit less than 2 wks ago and/or don't yet have financial aid info for all of the schools, AMCAS guidelines suggest that you should be given a few extra days to decide.

I can't confirm this...but I'm sure that you'd be contacted by schools before you were "kicked off" the admit list, just in case you were holding two admits by mistake.

There have definitely been people who have withdrawn from schools but the schools failed to take them off the list.(I just got health history and housing forms from a D.O. school I declined in December, for instance, and found out they've been holding my spot without their exorbitant $1k+ deposit for more than 5 months).

I'm not applying this round so I'm not familiar with this process yet.

By now, have all the Ivy leaguers and UC's sent out their acceptances?

And so if one has no acceptances, and is moved off the waitlist after May 15, they have until the 1st day of school to accept?
I hope schools won't be mean and sent out acceptances to waitlisters like a week before school starts!

One has ~2 weeks to reply upon receiving an acceptance.

And yes, there have been schools in the past that accept someone off the waitlist the day before classes start. Which is amusing when it leads to a domino effect (School A accepts student who was planning to go school B, which then leads school B to have to get a new student... etc)
