Medical What if I fail Step 3?

I am an IM resident at a mid-tier university program interested in cardiology. My original step 3 exam was canceled this spring due to Covid, so I had to take it during the beginning of second year after a pretty tough rotation. I walked out of the exam feeling pretty terrible about it. I otherwise have decent USMLE scores, and am actively working on research. Is it possible to match into cardiology fellowship with a step 3 failure?

If you fail it, just take it again. as long as you pass it and are eligible for your full license, you should be able to match somewhere for cardiology.

I have heard from everyone know step 3 doesn’t matter. Not sure how true that is, but I’ve heard that probably 10 times.
