Okay so i need some advice...

I think I'm a decent candidate for OT school...(good grades, hours, LOR, etc.)

I've been invited to an interview at a school 11 hours (driving) from my home. It's in a different state. I applied to two in state schools and have a decent chance getting in. Should I go to the interview and pay $200-300 or just cancel and hope I get into a in-state school?
I really don't want to take another year off and just want to start school already!!

Any advice?

Go to the interview. It won't hurt you to go. Plus what if you don't get into the schools in your state and then you will wonder...what if I had gone to the other interview?

It's worth it!

Yes. As they say, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". Don't close off any opportunities for yourself.

I would agree with the other responses...go to the interview! If anything, it'll be good experience =).

Whats another $200. I want to know how much it cost you to apply to 11 schools on OTCAS....? With supplementary apps.

Yeah you should go. I felt the same way too. AT Still contacted me this morning to set up an interview for January. I wasn't sure about going but I decided why not? it will just increase my chances. The more interviews I'm invited to the higher my chances of getting into an OT program!

i didn't apply to 11 schools...I'm also a little nervous.

I definitely think you should go. I thought I had a good chance of getting into a school, and ended up getting waitlisted, while the school I thought was a stretch accepted me immediately. you never really know what could happen, even if you have a idea of what might happen. Plus, you don't want to run the risk of having to wait another year if the other schools don't work out.

I'm in the minority here, but i think you should only apply to your top choice or two. I applied to some schools, and drove 6 hours for an interview, and was heartbroken upon being alternate listed at my first choice school, but i got in from the alternate list. If you are going to get a Master's or Entry Level Doctorate in OT at all costs, maybe you should apply to a lot of schools, but explore all options, including COTA. It would be a big deal to take out 90K in loans and cross the country.

thanks for the advice everyone. Due to cultural/family reasons I declined. I am praying to get in a in-state school or I will just have to wait another year. Good luck to everyone applying!

To the students in OT schools or accepted, if you don't mind...can you please share your stats?! Also, the school you are attending
