Do they keep you at school for another year or they just delay your graduation by 1 month?
Got in trouble during my AI today.

Told a member of the team about needing to finish some stuff for a grant app due tomorrow. Checked on my patients one last time and left the unit for about an hour during lunch to work on my project (my patients have been medically cleared by the senior, so they are just waiting placement, and the unit has been slow today), so I just sat outside the unit for about an hour talking to the PI on the phone.

Well, got paged by the night senior asking me where I was, so I quickly returned after finishing up the call with the PI.
Feel bad of cuz but she explained to me that it's not okay for an AI to leave (never knew this before because for my previous AI, the interns always sent me to go pick up food and stuff, etc)

I think you'll be fine. Did the other resident say it was ok? If so, then it'll totally be fine.

she just said i shouldn't leave the hospital and I apologized saying it won't happen again
By outside of the unit, I meant sitting outside the hospital (we have an area for patients to walk outside in the sun)

The reason why I felt comfortable leaving for an hr to work on my project is that all the patients I am responsible for are quite healthy.
One was cleared by the day senior before I left the unit, waiting for placement to another unit (psych unit, currently on 24hr monitoring for suicide prevention, and I talked to her right before I left)
One was walking outside with her mom in front of me when I was typing on my laptop
Slow day today, nothing happened, just waiting to signout at 7pm...........

I agree with everyone who's saying that nothing will probably come of this. However, in cases like this I think it's always advisable to let one of the interns or your upper level know where you're going if you're stepping out--they'll probably let you do it, and if they think it's not OK well then at least you'll know their expectations.

Highly doubt this would cause you to fail the rotation.

Geez, I can't believe they made you come in the weekend after match day.

hopefully the senior isn't mad at me (literally nothing happened, suicidal patient had a grilled cheese sandwich per my recommendation and the kid with the mom went to cafeteria to buy some sweet potato fries also per my recommendation, and no admission at all today)
