lets say you have near a 4.0 applying and then this semester get a 3.5 or something (despite all the effort you are currently putting in!)...anybody think this could seriously affect whether you get accepted or not?

Nope I dont think it will matter that much.

In my opinion, any GPA that is beyond a 3.5 or 3.6 is irrelevant. That is, you dont get very many extra "points" for having a 4.0 GPA versus a 3.5.

I think the only situation where this is not true is at the top med schools or those with a heavy research emphasis.

I agree -- it doesn't mean anything at all, especially since a 3.5 average for all years is still excellent. No sweat.

Besides, the schools are going to admit you based on the info you already gave them. Then you just have to prove, upon matriculation, that you passed your prereqs with a C or better (at least those prereqs that you did after the interview) and graduated from a university (if you're coming straight out). No worries at all.

I'd add that passing each of those classes with a C or better, no matter if they're prereqs, would be a safe bet. If you get a 3.5, no hard feelings, so long as you passed 'em all. If you got a 3.4, say, and failed that super-hard mathematical logic course, well, they might not like that too much, but unless your major is mathematics, I don't think they'll bombshell you with a rejection.

well, your GPA is not going to get you an acceptance or a rejection. your MCATs are just as important (probably more important), so are your extracurriculars, letter of rec, etc.

as for your question (i think it is a question about your gpa after the interview)- well, your grades aren't as important after the interview- but you may have to submit them to schools if you get waitlisted, and if they drop significantly (i.e. below 3.2 or so, i guess), well that could hurt your chances of getting off the waitlist.

by the way- i'm not sure i would say a GPA of 3.5 sucks...that's the average for matriculating students. unless you are dying to attend harvard or johns hopkins.
