The cost of attendance (determined by the school) in my opinion was set very low- what do you do if you need more money than what you are able to take out with grad plus loans??

I would talk to the school and see if they can make some provision for you if you truly need the money. I don't know how much the school you are attending set the cost of attendance at over the cost of tuition, but at my school it's about $14K over the tuition. Granted some of that is eaten up by fees and books, but you should have about $5.5K per semester for my school after that. If you can't live off $5.5K, you are either living in a high cost of living area and the school is out of touch or you may be living beyond your means for right now. Make it easier on yourself and work out a monthly budget if you haven't already done so. This will help you see if you really need more money. If you do, first talk to the financial aid office and apply for every stinkin' scholarship you can find that you qualify for and ask them what other options are available to you.

Two words: Ramen noodles

But seriously, if the school estimate was on the low side, there are going to be several students in your shoes. What kind of numbers are you talking about?

Financial packages, at least for my school, has an "estimated" package, which doesn't include any scholarship, grants, etc the school may hand out; all of that gets handed out closer to the beginning of the school year. It also means that you can ask your financial counselor for more gradplus loans if you have a good legitimate reason for needing more money.
