Right because the med students outweigh the general population right? Quit trolling. Asians work hard that's the only reason why they are ORM. That being said, everyone has that capacity too. Unless there's some Asian specific MCAT or GPA gene your argument is pathetic

Heres an idea. Instead of arguing about it, include it in your personal statement and hopefully it will help and maybe adcoms will be more empathetic to your situation. Some people on here haven't really had to struggle with money, family, insurance, etc so it may not be readily apparent to them that this struggle is real and plays a large part in our lives.

Non-URM here. Grew up in the hood. Had a rough childhood that consisted of everything that is typically associated with poverty. Recently had the humbling privilege of an acceptance at a top 15 MD public research institution. Sometimes life works out...the tears/lack of sleep/stress pays off eventually.

Not sure how much applying disadvantaged helped me or not. I had solid stats. Now that I've had some time to reflect on the med school application process, it seems that schools are looking the overall package. Sure, GPA and MCAT are most important, but your story is also very important. I've had the privilege of meeting some amazing people on the interview trail and look forward to working with these people in the future. Just to name a couple of the qualifications: Nature publishing, D1 athletes, accomplished musicians, met this guy that used to gangbang.

EDIT: OP. I'd like to add that during the pre-med process, I realized that my situation made it more difficult to get into med school. Some would even go as far as saying that it's unfair. However, if you're really from a similar place as me, and you experienced similar things to me, you'd realize that simply having the opportunity to apply to med school means life is going awesome for you. Watching friends die/go to prison to 15 years <<<<< disadvantages in application process. Just keep your nose in the books, work hard, have a good attitude, make lots of friends (ie: networking), and you'll be fine. You may not get in the first time...hell you may not get in the second or third time...but if your heart is in it, it won't matter. I'm sitting at the top of the world right now in humble reflection of being incredibly privileged. My previous acquaintances are either dead or in prison. Could have just as easily been me.
