So I haven't taken the USMLE step 1 yet but as a D.O. student...what happens if you do fine on the COMLEX but bomb the USMLE???

i assume you can either retake it or just not report it when you apply to residencies? Do they still find out you bombed it?

Just thinkin this thru because somebody asked me and I had no clue how to answer them...

lemme know your thoughts :barf:

once you pass the USMLE, you can't retake it. you're stuck with the score. also, I'm under the impression that all allopathic residency programs want to see your USMLE scores on your application, since that's the test that MD students take.

well what if you didnt pass it to begin with?

and i doubt the allopathic residency programs require the usmle score since they know many osteopathic students dont even take it.
it's there to help your chances but its definitely not a requirement (at least not a written requirement)...what those residency directors do behind closed doors is a complete different matter.

If you do not pass USMLE you will have a very very hard time getting an allopathic residency, unfortunately.

thanks for the input but my orginal question was regarding whether or not you have to release the fact that you failed it or not.
