I have a pressing question

Right now I'm pursuing a self directed undregrad program in health care policy. However what if in the end, I go on to grad school or work for some consulting firm that works in healthcare consulting or a lobbying group, and I realize that I want to be a physician. What would I have to do to get my pre-med pre-reqs done...a post bacc program?

Thanks

You wouldn't have to be in a formal post-bac program. All you'd need to do is enroll in the pre-requisite classes. Many schools require you to complete them within so many years of your application to medical school, so you may have to repeat some of these.

The pre-reqs are:

1 year of composition/English
1 year of general chemistry with lab
1 year of organic chemistry with lab
1 year of general physics with lab
1 year of general biology with lab

Some schools also require biochemistry, genetics, and/or calculus.

Keep in mind that those are the minimum pre-requisites. It might be good to go ahead and get some advanced level science classes under your belt just to prove you can handle them. Of course, this is not absolutely necessary, but I think it would help you with your application if you did that.

Good luck!
