Everyone has been told that a bad score can hurt you, but what is considered a bad score ? In First Aid it says the goal of the majority of US medical students is too "simply pass." Pass means 182 or above and that may qualify for certain fam med, internal med, peds, psych residencies. If 182 is considered a bad score then a majority of US med students who simply want TO PASS are doing that with a bad score? Or is below 182 what people consider a bad score? If a student is not going for Derm or Optho, and for all those who "Passed" I would think congrats are inorder, as it is according to FA the desires of the "majority of US med students." Big Frank any input?

Do you really believe that the majority of med students only want to pass?

that people usually want to do as well as they can.
🙄 I mean seriously envision the following " hey bro...you can either have a 240 and have your choice of residency or have a 182 and be relegated to the bottom of the barrel...whats that ..unlike 95% of med students you actually want to be a PCP in the middle of nowhere serving underserved communities?...oh..ok." When people say "I only want to pass" what they generally mean is " I only want to pass, and do as well as I can, so that I can make as much money as possible with the least amount of effort necessary" So yeah...we all only want to pass.

Well, suffice to say that at this forum and probably at every medical school, no score is good enough. There will always be *something* wrong with you.

I decided that I would be okay with (>200) and thrilled with (>230 in my case).

I've heard some perverse MS2's saying they need 260 or bust. You don't need that for *any* specialty (take a look at recent years' average matched applicant scores, and you'll find means in maybe the 230's for even the most competitive fields). I would pick something reasonable for your target, and just do your best and use all the advice you can get without worrying about the number you get at the end. Who knows, you could decide you're happy with 200, study your butt off, get 240 and be thrilled. Or you could be the idiot who wants the 260, studies his/her butt off, gets 240 and is completely crushed.

Don't ever, ever use c for with when you type. I know its your third year and you're all excited but it looks f-ing lame.

I'd say a bad score is one you're too embarassed to post. It varies directly with how long you've been building it up. Just an observation; I could be wrong. 😉

OOOO are you gonna beat me up?

See the problem I have c some med students is that they're so accustomed to getting messed c qd by people bigger than them all their life. Then they discover the internet and realize they can be internet toughguys c anyone s having t/c the consequences.

In summary, f/u. And I don't mean follow-up.

Just offering help, but feel free to keep looking like and idiot if you'd like too.

Here's a thought:
Considering it's the way I write for about 12 hours a day, sometimes I can't help but let the medical language permeate my subconscious.

Furthermore, I think you're seriously overestimatinng how much I care about my social standing on an anonymous internet message board.

Finally, I apologize that you got bent out of shape on my substituting one letter for another and decided you had to call me out on it. Yeah, I should worry about looking like an idiot. Good call chief.

Classic Example of Displacement.

Somebody hates his current life as a third year.

Hey jerk

U need to be more careful with those abbreviations. I was reading your post and I almost confused "qd" with "qod". Next time be more careful and say "q daily" or "qday" or I might have to report ur punkass for using illegal abbreviations. I cant stand a$$holes that use illegal abbreviations. U make me sick.

Later dude

That's weird, I thought I was really enjoying it. Must be in denial too. How's that step 1 score anyway?
