Hey guys, there's a ****load of stuff you have to know about things being absorbed in the GI Tract, and where exactly things are absorbed. I'm starting to get things confused, so maybe we can all add in our input as to where things are absorbed and in what part of the intestine:

Just copy it over into your post, so that way the list just continues to get updated. i'll add a few things...

Stomach:
Alcohol

Duodenum:

Jejunum:
Calcium and Phosphate through the Vit. D receptor

Ileum:
B12
Bile Acids

Colon:
Water

Stomach also absorbs and secretes water to make material isotonic.

Duodenum absorbs Fe2+ .

Then of course there are all the nutrients that are absorbed mostly in the jejunum.

It's not an exahustive list, but in terms of nuts-and-bolts stuff for Step 1 I would say to know the following:

Absorbed in the stomach - alcohol
Absorbed in the duodenum - iron
Absorbed in the jejunum - pretty much everything else (fats, etc.)
Absorbed in ileum - B12, bile acids
Absorbed in colon - water

In a pinch, associate digestion with the duodenum and absorption with the jejunum. 👍
