Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society

It is an honor to be in it. It is reserved for the top people in the class. Very few people, like 1 or 2, would get it 2nd year. And a few more get it 3 year. You can also have the honor in your residency.

From the UT Memphis site:
Students ranked in the top twenty-five percent (25%) of their class are considered eligible for membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society.

and from Kentuky:
Alpha Omega Alpha is the only national honor medical society in the world. The organization?s purpose is to recognize and perpetuate excellence in the medical profession. In keeping with it?s purpose, Alpha Omega Alpha elects distinguished medical students, graduates, alumni, faculty, and honorary members.

AOA is alpha omega alpha- a national medical honor society. Students are selected in there junior or Sr. year on the basis of academic performance and usually must be in the top 15% of there class in order to be elected.

Alpha Omega Alpha is a membership in a national honors society. It means you set the bar real high for professionalism, academics, and compassion. That's why a lot of conniving, sniveling, toadies get elected to it. I think its based on the number of honors you get, community service, board scores?, and the alignment of the stars. You can get elected during medical school, residency, and beyond, although it only really means anything in medical school, because it opens some major doors when you apply for residency. Otherwise, its just another certificate to frame and hang in your office. Its not the end all be all, but I'd rather have it in my pocket at the start of 4th year!

Also, your school has to have a chapter for you to join. For instance, McGill doesn't, so no one here gets AOA (in med school at least).

No one mentioned HOW you actually become part of it. They find you or you apply for it? What are the application procedures, i.e if you apply into it? Thanks

All I can say is that at my school its OBVIOUSLY not based on honors and board scores! I think its based on number of inane questions asked during class and how far up a committee members butt you can fit your head. Hell, I think I saw the top of one of their heads when Dr. so and so yawned. Lousy ass-kissing bastards. I think I'll crack my beer bottles on their skulls and scoop out their brains! Join me!+pissed+ Me bitter?....yup.

Don't worry huktonfonix😛

The as yet unknown tenth circle of hell, which incidentally couldnt' be described because of Dante Alighieri's untimely death, is reserved for AOAers...happy?
