What is Block Scheduling?

Hi all,

I am confused about block scheduling. 😕 I looked up some info about it but I still don't quite understand it. If schools aren't on block schedules, what are they on? The school I'm at, we have classes from August - December. We then start new classes from January - May. They're called semesters.

So anybody, please help! I apologize if this is a dumb question.

Block scheduling is where you learn only one subject at a time. I think a block usually lasts 3-6 weeks.

Most schools are on a semester or quater system where you take different subjects at the same time. The semesters last 3-4 months.

the blocks really don't have anything to do with the semester or quarter thing as i understand it

you can be on block and have semesters and quarters

it just means that for 3-6 weeks all your classes will be focusing on the cardiovascular system (for example) and then the next time will be a whole new system (i.e. pulmonary) you get all of your med chem, pharmacology, therapeutics, physiology at once

i don't know if its easier or better
i don't think most schools are like that but i'm not sure about that either

i don't think it would be good for me because i wouldn't remember anything from a couple of years ago without seeing it again... but i know that some schools that do that have intensive reviews the 4th year to remind you of everything you learned
