Doing this rn while in middle of interview cycle. I think something like 25% of applicants get accepted, but as long as your motivations are good I don't think it's too difficult to get a spot. Seems like they could always use help at my site. I spent 5 months tutoring kids at a boys and girls club and have done some paid tutoring so that mightve helped my CY app, but otherwise nothing else too related.
I chose my city as #1 pref and got it, so I just commute from home, and luckily I was able to drive to all of my interviews except for 2 schools.
It definitely gave me a lot to talk about during interviews and I was able to get a bunch of help with interviews from staff and other people through the program. With 9.5 hour days it makes your schedule tight and for some living is difficult with the stipend we get, but its a great experience seeing what its like in the different communities that CY serves and puts many things into perspective. I would recommend it to anyone whos looking for something to do for a year.
Unsure of what its like in Dallas or DC, but in terms of responsibilities its the same across sites.
Hope this helps! Lmk if u got other questions.
