The UW website says:

"
When UW School of Medicine receives your file from AMCAS, an initial automated screening is done of all applications:

The WGPA (weighted GPA)* is added to the mean MCAT score then converted to a 4.0 scale so that the maximal CS (Combined score) = 8
(eg. WGPA = 2.4, mean MCAT = 9 then CS would be calculated as 2.4 + (9/3.75) = 4.8).
If this combined score is less than 5, the application is automatically screened out and the applicant will not be invited to complete a secondary application.

*WGPA = freshman GPAx1 + sophomore GPAx2 + junior GPA x 3 /6
"

I have a few questions on what distinguishes one class status from another.
1. Is it by year or by credits taken?
2. WGPA does not incorporate the senior GPA, probably because most apply their junior year. Does anybody know senior GPA is or isn't incorporated in the WGPA?
3. My AMCAS application has my freshman and sophomore year listed as 'High School', because I did running start (basically replaced high school with college for my last 2-years of HS). I'm assuming they will consider those HS classes as Freshman and Sophomore still?
4. Does anybody know what a competitive WGPA is? Less than 5 is automatically screened out, and 8 is the highest. How's a 6.12? :/

1. It is classified how AMCAS does it. Pretty much your entire first year is freshman year, the second is sophomore, etc. Now this may contradict your own school because of AP credits, or whatever, but it is how they do it.

2. I would assume they use the senior year grades if they are available. It would be irresponsible to ignore data that is readily available (meaning the next line down from the data they already looked at).

3. Since you earned an actual grade and credit, they will use them as freshman and sophomore year.

4. No idea, but UW is a school that stats don't matter as much. Heck, the people that interview you and recommend admission haven't seen your MCAT or GPA. You just have to get an interview first and nail it.

Awesome, thank you.

I do hope they consider my senior year, as I have a nice trend going for me 🙂

If you have any more questions, please post in the school specific thread. That way way more people looking for this specific answer will see it. I will browse the UW school thread from time to time to try to answer questions as they arise.

Good luck applying.
