I am a second year student. i am going to have 67 credits by the end of this semester and i am going to take the mcat next week. I am thinking of applying edp. does early decision program mean you can apply after your second year without the 90 credits.
- is there any other way i can apply to med schools without the 90 credits.

End diastolic pressure?

Sorry, medical joke. I have no real information for you.

I am a dork.

Sorry I can't help with your actual questions, but as an EMT ....

EDP = Emotionally Disturbed Person

You can draw whatever parallels you wish to those of us applying to med school 🙂

hi im_newbie,

EDP is early decision for applying to 1 school only until the Oct 15 deadline passes or u get deferred or u get rejected. IF u get accepted, then u cant apply to any other school. And, the MSARs say that u definitely need 90 credits to apply.

Furthermore, I wouldn't recommend u do EDP cuz its too risky!!!

EDP doesn't mean you apply any earlier (well, maybe a couple months earlier, but in the same application cycle that normal applicants apply in). You only apply to one school, but that school makes a decision on you by Oct. 15. After Oct 15, you can apply to as many schools as you want. EDP is great if you are absolutely positive you want to go to a specific school and you feel you are super-qualified. It's not so great b/c if you are not accepted then your application is delayed at other schools.

If I am not accepted this year, I plan on applying EDP to my first-choice school for 2004. After having gone through the process once, I know that this school would be the absolute best for me. But I wouldn't have known that w/out applying to 18 schools this year and doing large amounts of research about those schools. I know that applying EDP is a risking my chances at other schools, but I want to go to this one school so badly that it's a risk I'm willing to take.

Hi sweet tea,
wut school do u "badly" want to go to? i mean EDP is too risky, unless u are definitely sure u will get in.

I'm thinking about applying EDP to my state school (Maryland). I have a home & family here and I really, really don't want to have to move for med school. My gpa is above Md's average (don't know about the MCAT yet, I'm taking it Saturday). I'm hoping that EDP will increase my chance of getting in Md and that I wouldn't be taking too big a risk with my app. Haven't decided for sure though.

I want to go to the Brody School of Medicine at ECU...East Carolina University. It's got everyting I want and their mission (providing rural NC with pcp) matches perfectly with my career goals (being a pcp in rural NC). And yes, I do think I'm qualified (not trying to brag...i certainly don't have the GPA to brag, but I've got other stuff going for me that ECU looks for). You can PM me if you want details...I've posted my story a few times before and I'm feeling lazy this morning. 😉 I'm not definetly sure I'm going to get in, but I am definetly sure it's where I want to go over all other schools. And really, who's *definetly* sure they're going to get in anywhere? I'm willing to risk it.
