I am a new grad and I have worked hospital throughout my pharmacy school career. The only retail experience I had was through doing rotations. I am interviewing for a Kroger pharmacist position soon. I was just wondering if Kroger is a good company to work for and what is it like to work there as a pharmacist. I know big name places like Walgreens, Walmart, and CVS can get hectic, but what about Kroger?

Walk into a few stores, including the store you are applying at and get a feel for the store. Speak to the pharmacists and get their opinions. The pharmacists working at Kroger in your area are going to be able to give you a lot better info than you receive on here.

A R.Ph. friend that I respect recommends Kroger highly as an employer. He has his own store now but said he would not think twice about going back to work for Kroger.

About the hectic factor, they have $4 generics like WalMart and Target so volume is very heavy. One store not too far from me often fills 700 in a day, has 3 full time Pharmacists, looking for a fourth.

I think most stores still have the older type pharmacy software. They are supposed to upgrade to a windows based version at some point.

You know to be fair... most pharmacists working at the retail level will be too busy to talk to a student. I am sure there is no way to communicate the information needed about working for Kroger in a few minutes...

I would go to a job fair where Kroger recruits or hunt down their recruiter or intern coordinator if they have one.
