medical college of virginia.

it is officially known as Virginia Commonwealth University...the history if you want it:

MCV was the only medical school to keep graduating physicians through the civil war....blah blah blah VCU took over in the 60's or 70's. they wanted to change MCV to the name VCU. but because of the roots/history, they decided to call it Virginia Commonwealth University on the campus of Medical College of Virginia. the students/everyone around there all call it MCV from what i understand.

oh yeah- and MCV is where patch adams went to school i think 🙂

Patch went to EVMS... or at least he did the movie.

When I interviewed at MCV, they told us that Patch Adams went to school there.

Trani (the president of VCU/MCV) gets it in his head that they need to change the name to make VERY sure VCU is remembered as the "parent" of MCV. All he does is succeed in confusing people and making the organization have to go through lots of money to change the logo and name to the new name on all the IDs, stationary, volunteer chirts, etc..... It is a big joke.

The stupidiest thing is he gets very upset if people refer to MCV as MCV rather than what ever new name they have come up with. I think since I started there the name has changed 3 times.

All the VCU students as well as the MCV students still say MCV unless bigshots from the organization are around. However if you go for an interview or if you write a letter, fax or email you better make sure you are using the correct name at the time you write to them.🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

I'm glad I graduated, moved away and no longer have to worry about what I call the darn place.

everyone that applied this year still probably calls it "MCV" but it's no longer called that. The Medical College of Virginia is now called the VCU Medical Center. They changed the name because when MCV's name was in the paper or referred to in conversation people would think it was UVA's medical school. The school finally got sick of this when the New york times had an article about some genetics project and wrote UVA's medical school name instead of MCV's.

i know this because I go to VCU undergrad....most people could care less about this but to the few people here who might be going there just something i thought you might want to know.

Remember awhile back when he changed the name to...

"The Medical College of Virginia on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University"? Try to say that 3 times let alone write it on stationary or volunteer shirts.🙄
