So I took the DAT today and the score pretty even out .. Here is my DAT breakdown:
PAT 18
QR 17
RC 19
Bio 18
GC 21
OC 19
TS 19
AA 19

sGPA:3.15, oGPA 3.28

I couldn't commit all the time into DAT score because of my job as a dental assistant... I works more than 20 hours a week for about 2~3 years now... Feel like I can do better next round, but honestly, should I retake?

You scores and GPA are very similar to my previous DAT scores. I applied last year and didn't get in anywhere. You should retake I just retook this summer and did a lot better and will be applying next cycle after completing my Master's.

If you have the time to study... ACTUALLY study for it, then I'd say yes, otherwise don't waste the money and see where these scores get you.

Thank you for your response and sorry for taking so long to reply back to you. I have started studying again for the DAT and this time I will have more time, I plan to retake the DAT in mid May, and apply for the next cycle which will be opened in early June.

Your scores for DAT are good. Where are you planning to apply?

Sorry to taking so long to get back to you.
I applied totally 20 schools and I haven't got any luck yet. I guess Luck is turning her back to me this time. I live in the Washington DC area, really hope to get in Howard Dental School because their requirement is like 2.8 for GPA and 18 for DAT. It seems like I can satisfy their requirement but it's been so long I have heard anything from them even though I've tried to contact them many times. I started to lose hope for this cycle. I have been studying for DAT to retake the test and will apply for the next cycle. I've got 8 denial letters from 8 schools around the states, there are still 12 more schools that haven't answered me yet but I have little hope in them because it is late now.

Don't sweat it so much. I had to apply a second time. The more areas you improve, the more schools will interview you. It's not the end of the world if you don't get in the first cycle. But your stats are just a little off, you just need to keep pushing and you'll get there.

Hi MeoMeo,

Your scores are not bad at all and you did not receive any low scores and schools do like consistent scores. Your science GPA is on the low side for many schools and having a higher DAT score would help. If you live in the DC area close to Howard perhaps you could make an in person visit rather than calling, email, etc. If you can talk to someone face to face perhaps they can advise you where to focus to make you a more competitive applicant for Howard. Schools are also looking at community volunteer type service so make sure you have that on your application. Make sure your personal statement is well written and free of grammatical errors. An interesting well written personal statement can make a big difference.

Hope this helps..

Wishing you the very best ..

Nancy

Hi Nancy,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful advices. I really appreciate it. It is such a good idea I should pay Howard a visit, and make a good impression to them.

Please keep us posted with your progress. Making a good impression and asking for advice from the school you want to attend makes good common sense to me. 🙂
