What is my salary? :)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone,

I want to create this thread to ask you and would like for you to share a certain subspecialty salary.

I wonder how much does a Marternal and Fetal doctor who is specialized in laparoscopic and fertility surgeon make? (after years of ob/gyn--then 3 years of fellowship to get here) do you know? 😕😀

I hope I can find a valid number 😉

You've posted this in the Surgery forum.

I'd venture you'd have better luck getting those numbers in the OB-Gyn forum.

Well, when the question is stated that clearly, I feel compelled to answer.

I have no idea. I've never even heard of Marternal Surgeons, but they sound rich.....

Moving to Ob-Gyn forum.

BTW, misstofu - if you are allowing someone else to use your account, please be aware that is a Terms of Service violation. While English does not appear to be your native language (by perusing your prior posts), the inelegance of this current post is much worse than usual. In addition, by allowing your account to be used by others, you are creating a confusing situation whereby one wonders why a pharmacy student is asking about MFM or REI. Please have your friend open their own account, or make it clear you are asking for someone else.

Are you in the states?

I don't have hard data (I could google that for you, but you have access to that as well). But some clarification could help others respond...

Are you curious more about Fertility Treatment (IVF, etc.) or OB/Gyns who do min. invasive surgery? See here for distinctions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obstetrics_and_gynaecology#Subspecialties

MFM rarely do any surgeries. They go through 3 years fellowship. Pay ranges from 250 to infinity. Most of the MFM deal with complicated pregnancies and supervises and/or performs difficult sonograms. Unfortunately... dealing with high risk pregnancies = higher chance for malpractice suits.

REI does a lot of IVF, especially with hormones and egg retrieval. I work with an REI who precept at cornell medical and he does a lot of minimal invasive surgery. Their salary ranges from 250/300 to infinity. Rarely deal with deliveries.

Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery is currently NOT ACGME approved fellowship but is a two year fellowship affiliated with AAGL. Pay should be the same as any other ob/gyn however, your skills will be highly needed. If you practice in a place with many surgeons who pursue minimally invasive procedures... who is willing to proctor you, then you may fore go the fellowship.

Most MFM (maternal fetal medicine) physicians are not trained in surgery--other than C/S and cerclage placement. However, some MFM programs comprise four years of training--allowing an extra year to train in fetal surgery. See Univ of Cinicinnati, for example.

Well technically they are trained in Gyn surgery as well having completed a general OB/Gyn Residency. I'm confident they could do a C-Hyst or other surgery of that nature if the situation were to arise.
