What is NYU Doing ?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Why do they start accepting apps so late! If they know they're slow about it, should've started before. Or Stanford for that matter, where are they???

i'll tell u what they're not doing

they're not answering questions on the phone
and they're taking their sweet time telling me if my application is complete or not

I called and asked them...they said they were doing your mom...

I spoke with them yesterday and they said it takes one to two months AFTER you receive their initial "we received your application card" for them to verify your transcripts and make sure that they have your LORs. (I mailed my application on 9/5 and their return card was marked 9/11).
The guy was actually really nice. He also said that NYU prefers snail mail letters to faxes or email. I had a particular request regarding one of my LORs, so I typed up a letter and sent it to them for my file.

I called them yesterday to ask what was up, and they told me the same thing. I mailed my app 9/14. I was a dope and forgot to send in a return card. I didn't expect to hear from them until November. Today I got an email from them saying my entire app is complete.

So they're definitely working on it -- you'll hear from them soon.

bump

I still can't believe NYU hasn't started interviewing yet...

I just called them and learned that they start interviewing on Nov. 01. The guy was very nice.

My application reuturn card (meaning the one saying my application was simply received, not complete) didn't come in until mid september (Sent 8/4). I thought I had a complete application, until 2 weeks ago I got a card saying my transcript hadn't arrived. I sent that out on the same day as my application, but there are two addresses that one could send stuff to. The one on the application itself was PO Box 1924, NY, NY 10016 while the one on the website was 550 First Avenue, NY, NY 10016 (From the NYU Application Instructions). I sent my app to the right place and it arrived, but I sent the transcript to 550 and it never arrived. I also just realized that I had my recs sent to 550, so I better call them up to see if they arrived.

Cool. *Crossing fingers* for a interview from my alma mater.

Anyone get notice about interviews from NYU yet? I'm interviewing soon at Mt. Sinai, and would love to interview at both of these amazing schools in one trip.

For those who were interested: NYU just mailed out their first batch of interview invites today. They're rolling them out based on the order that your application was reviewed. Good luck all,

deez

I received another notification today saying my app was complete....but this time it was a postcard, rather than the email I got 10/1. I don't understand why they notify twice. And why so much time in b/t notifications? Good luck to all.

I think i am going to withdraw from NYU. With an acceptance from UChicago and considering the costs of flying once again to NYC it just doesn't seem worth it to me.

damn heck yeah.......go to chicago.......dont bother with nyu if you have a chicago acceptance...

Yeah, I just called them about which address we are to use. The guy said not to use the 550 first ave. address because that goes to the school of medicine and some how not to the admissions office. But, then I said, my letter of rec service doesn't send to PO boxes.

He said "oh, use 550 First Ave." WHAT the heck??!!

I love the admissions process!...who needs that extra 10 years of their life?

Has anyone received an interview invitation yet?

Why are they so slow?

I spoke to a guy on the adcom at NYU today (he was visiting my school). He said that apps completed by Sept.1 are considered early and will get the first invites. He said even these apps aren't given interview invites until mid-Nov. So I guess no one is getting invited until then. I tried to get as much info as I could about the apps this year, but not much else other than most invites will take place between Nov and the end of Jan.
