what is percentile scoring?

hi,
i have gone thro' the tecnical score reports.."n" number of times but have failed to understand the meaning of percentile scoring..and the curve that everyone talks about.is it possible that if others have done better then me ..my scores would go down beocs i wasnot good enough????
please help...

i have seen that site before..but i dint understand much..i just wanted to know percentile scoring i simple language ..b'cos this term "percentile"is alien to me...i dont understand it 🙁
