Hey everyone!

I've done every kind of search I could think of, and couldn't find anything, so I guess I'm the only ignoramus on this, but could someone PLEASE enlighten me to what PG-1 and PG-2 is. I see it in signatures and in match lists, but I have no idea what it means..

Thanks so much--I think I'll go crawl back under my rock now.. 😳 😳

They are the new MPAA ratings for movies.

PG-1 means parental guidance needed below the age of 1
PG-2 means for age 2
PG-13 is wut we have now...

It also means, post-graduate-1, post-graduate-2...graduation after med school

AKA how far along you are in residency.

No need to feel foolish, there'll be plenty more acronyms for us to go 😕 at in the years ahead. Usually I've seen it referred to as PGY1, etc, for Postgrad Year 1. PGY1 is your intern year, followed by the other years of residency.

thanks SO much for having mercy on me!

i was thinking it was how far along you were, but when i looked at the match lists, some of them had pg-2, so that's what threw me off.

thanks again! 😀

Some residencies start as second year programs, which means that the person has to find a place to do some sort of a first year at. For instance, you might be accepted into a radiology residency as a PGY-2, but before attending you need to complete a year of internal medicine or emergency somewhere.

P.S. - is it my imagination or is that a picture of Calvin actually peeing in your avatar?

Hi Zweihander!

Good eye! 😀 Yup, I am a MASSIVE C&H fan! I figured I'd one up those Calvin peeing bumper stickers and show 'em how it's done! 😉

Thanks for explaining it to me!

you might also see it denoted as PGY-1, PGY-2
