I wrote off applying this year as I wasn't having any luck getting any DO's in my area to let me shadow them. I recently heard back from one and I've put in about ~25 hours with her so far, likely another ~25 to go. She offered to write me a letter and encouraged me to apply this year, but I'm googling it and I don't see what the general time-frames are for applications. It seems way, way too late in the year to begin an application - is that correct? I have all of my letters, MCAT taken, etc., but I haven't even begun the process of starting an application.

It is definitely too late to begin the primary application. I suggest waiting until the 2016-2017 cycle and apply as soon as the application system opens up.

i am no expert on this, but i'd wager it depends partially on your stats and partially on your bank account; if you're okay matriculating fall of 2017, then wait 6 more months to apply early and save your money so you can apply very very broadly (especially if you have average stats). Either way, best of luck!

Not an exceptional applicant by any means. 509 / 3.5. Solid EC's. Not too worried about money so if there's still a chance to apply, I would be willing to take the risk to shave a year off of the process.

Definitely apply next cycle

There are some subtles to be aware of:
~May 5th- AACOMAS opens up and you can actually submit your app the very first day.
~June 15th- First day medical schools will receive your application from AACOMAS

Ideally, you would apply mid May or before and be verified before June 15th so that you are part of the first batch of applications that are read.

Apply this coming cycle. It's too late for this one, as you have to get things in and approved. Best case is around a month, assuming schools send transcripts without glitches. So just not worth it. With your stats if you apply on opening of the coming cycle you have a good chance for a DO and maybe MD. Best of luck

If I want to submit early due to borderline stats, is June 18 MCAT date too late?

That is still relatively early but super early applicants will be a couple months ahead of you

I was under impression that app opens early May but cannot be submitted until early June

That is true of AMCAS but for the new AACOMAS that started this cycle you can submit as early as the first day, medical schools just won't see your application until June 15th at the earliest. Check this cycle AACOMAS threads for confirmation.

I think it is also worth it to note that you can open up AACOMAS now and start filling the application like I'm currently doing. I specifically called them and they said they don't delete your application at the end of each cycle if you didn't apply.

If I submit my apps without MCAT score, does the score get sent to schools on the same day it is released? Wouldn't that only put me 1 month behind?

You would get score late July, some people would have everything in early May

I think you definitely should apply this cycle, your MCAT is great, and ur GPA is right on average with most DO schools, apply to like 15-20 DO schools, and immediately start the process, dont delay it!

Can application be verified without an MCAT score? I wont be taking MCAT until June but trying to get all my ducks in a row so applications are complete ASAP
