I realize that if I posted this in pharmacy the majority would say pharmacy and if posted in dentistry majority would say dentistry, etc. But I couldn't find a general health forum so am just posting it here. Also I don't have time to shadow every single specialty in every single field. So taking into account everything: PA, PT, nurse, pharmacist, doctor, dentist, etc. In terms of lifestyle, salary, autonomy, what is the best health-care occupation and why?

hard for me to imagine doing something besides med school (entering this fall) but dentistry seems like a good option in terms of income and life balance

What do you think about pharmacy, physical therapy, nursing, or physician assisant?

I think those are all reasonable options if you are looking for stability, good (but not fantastic) income, and are comfortable not being the "guy/gal in charge"

I can't see myself working for someone else directly

I am sorry, I just thought his post was weird.
I prefer oncology because it is the most demanding field in healthcare. Too bad it's probably not going to happen.

Be aware that most docs are now working as employees for big practices and hospitals. That said, day to day, you have more autonomy of course in actually treating patients.

What part of STOP don't you understand?

The irony is palpable.

So far on in the past few days you have

1. Admitted to being a high school student who studies Step 2 prep materials in his free time.
2. Argued with ACTUAL SURGEONS about their scope of practice, based on what you misunderstood from your "studying".
3. Given absolutely terrible advice to people years older than you, with no idea what you're talking about.
4. Shown an inability to pick up the most basic social cues or sarcasm.
5. Been a giant PITA to everyone on the boards.

So I'm gonna go ahead and say you should STOP too.

Wait, are you talking about me?

NP

you can be in a position to help people
easier than med school; easier boards
you can do an online program and work while doing it
no residency
some states let you independently practice
surrounded by reformed party girls instead of nerdy med students
