Hello. This is my first participation in neurosurgery forum.
Iam medical student in my final year, interesting in interventional neuroradiology(INR) and neurology. But the radiology programs is highly compititive!!!

Is bossible to apply for INR after neurology residency?

What is the best way?? is it to go to neurosurgery program and after that applying for INR??
Is there any priority for neurologists or neurosurgeons???

Please help me...Iam in big dilemma to make my final decision😕 😕 😕

i believe neuroradiology routes are available through both radiology (followed by various fellowships) and neurology (also supplemented by fellowships)

interventional radiological procedures will also be taught in neurosurgery. neurosurgery is typically much more competitive than radiology for american graduates, and probably for FMGs as well.

All of the doctors I've encountered in interventional neurorads have gone either via rads or NSG. I have yet to meet one who has gone via neurology. Then again, I only know 6 in the profession. Endovascular NSG seems to be absorbing a lot of the interventional techniques...something to consider.

Hi.. well, the two routes you have outlined (NS and radiology) definitely have the highest flows to interventional neuroradiology. But, neurology works as well! I am currently working with an attending who is a neurologist with fellowships that allowed him to currently parctice interventional neuroradiology. Again, he is one among 6 other who are from rad and NS backgrounds.
