My exam is April 23rd so I still have time.

I feel like I know a lot of biochem but I want to understand the topics in detail and the logic behind them.

What books and sources do you guys recommend?

Thank you very much!

Leninger - but that may be a bit too dense for MCAT prep, though it will give you a deep understanding of biochemistry. Also perusing journals such as Annual Review of Biochemistry helps. Again - with about a month out, I would not suggest any of these but if understanding is your goal then there you have it.

Which topics would you suggest are best for having a deep understanding?

I know everything from the Kaplan book for Biochem. You think that is adequate?

Deep understanding comes with time and exposure. The Kaplan book should be sufficient for the MCAT. Just make sure you're scoring in your target range on your practice exams and you should be good. If you just want to learn some cool biochem that may or may not apply to the MCAT, use the sources I originally stated. That being said, some super important topics to know in biochemistry include metabolism/bioenergetics and the interplay of biochem in regulatory networks and pathways.

Gotcha thanks a lot!

I would highly recommend Lehninger. Especially for topics you're having trouble conceptualizing. It's got excellent diagrams and figures and great explanations to boot. I definitely wouldn't spend much time going over each chapter in detail but it's a good resource for topics you don't understand.
