hello,
what is the best way to learn about med schools?
my dilemma is I dont know anything about med schools, I dont even know what med schools exist. tell me there is a med school named Bill Gates and I will believe you.
How do you guys know all this info about med schools? do you read the MSAR?
is it possible to get the MSAR for free?
And on another thread someone said you need to consider the teaching style when you pick a med school, what does that mean? like how many teaching styles are there? and how do you find out which school uses which teaching style?
what is that red thing next to the title?

IF you're applying then yes get the MSAR, it will tell you what you need to know, but if you're a 1st year don't bother because newer editions will be out by the time you apply. No you can't get it for free but your schools library will most likely have it. MSAR will have all the US allopathic med schools listed. For osteopathic schools, AACOM has a guide book for free download on their website here-http://www.aacom.org/resources/bookstore/cib/Pages/default.aspx

As for training structure, there are usually 2 iirc. Traditional/didactic, and problem based learning. For the differences between these read The Not So Short Introduction To Getting Into Medical School eBook available as a free download in SDN's download section. The schools website should tell you these things once you have narrowed down your selection using MSAR or the AACOM guide.

I don't know what you're referring to by 'the red thing'

weird, i see that red circle, but have no idea what it is. it doesn't really like look any of the post icons.. huh

Look online. There are school specific threads here at SDN and you can find specific school websites if you look around.

Your red dot is a Post Icon, you must have accidentally chosen it when you posted.

The best way to learn about schools is to ask students of the schools you're interested in for advice. Soon, figuring out what they think may be just a couple clicks away...

There is a secret website on something called the internet called google. I think you may have to be part of a secret society in order to use it though. That's probably the reason why you are here and not there.

This is basically the funniest and most original thing I've ever heard. I'm doubled over with laughter! [/sarcasm]

Stop being an ass.
