Not another job thread - but here is my question. When I find a AP/CP job advertised what is the best way to make initial contact - send CV through email, mail hard copy of CV or give them a phone call first and introduce yourself? Any thoughts from people who receive CVs for jobs.

Some groups receive over 150 applications per spot. Unless your CV says Harvard undergrad, Harvard Med and the like, they may not stop your paperwork on its way to the circular filing cabinet.

The single best way IMO is to call them up, ask for a senior pathologist, politely ask if they have 5 minutes to discuss the opportunity, eloquently give your background, express a strong interest to work in the area and tell them they will receive your resume soon. Say your name, first and last, 3-4 times at least so he/she will remember. If English is not your strong suit this will backfire so your conversational skills better be SPECTACULAR.

Also, talking to the practice manager and chatting him/her up is a very good method as well as they typically will have more time to talk. Winning over a secretary/manager type can be one of the best things you can do.
