Hey:

So, I am in a kinda difficult situation. I started to shadow one of the top notch doctors in Hematology clinic. unfortunately, she has clinic only once in a week and I will ask her for a LOR. So, the later the better would be for me since she will have the chance to observe my interaction with the patients more. Any ideas until when I should wait.

Well, it depends on how early you plan on submitting your primary application (AMCAS), and on when you start getting secondary applications. The LOR's go out with secondaries.

Basically, you want everything to be ready as soon as possible. Some people have been saying that, if you submit early June, you may start getting secondaries by late June/early July. I plan on submitting AMCAS ~June 15, and hope I get my LOR's in before my secondaries start arriving. They won't all be done until 2nd week of July, though...

Anyways, I'd say at least let her know you'll need an LOR, and tell her around when you want it, be it early July or not till August or whatever...

LOR's and secondaries for that matter have a variety of "deadline" dates depending on the school. Obviously the later you submit everything the later your application will be complete the later the interview the less spots there are. Usually folks get or try to get everything in by October? not sure..but the deadlines are somewhere listed on each individual school web site under admissions. It takes time but there is nothing better than knowing for yourself where to find this info and knowing the ropes will pay off.
