What is the difference between licensed and certified pharmacy technician?
If I take the pharmacy technician test, will I be licensed or certified for it?
I'm not sure how those two are different
and what is the best book to prepare for that test?

when you take and pass the PTCB exam, you are certified and get a certificate. Then you submit a copy of your PTCB certificate with all the other required documentation to the State Board of your state, to get your license. Some states are different and required different documentation. I enrolled in a pharmacy tech program which helped me prepare for the PCTB. It's really easy. You just need to know all the pharmacy calculations and basically Hipaa laws.

I haven't taken any courses for the PTCB, but I want to take the test and get my license.

Do I need to take classes or can I just register online and take the test?
I live in CA.

Its not necessary to take a class before taking the PTCB test. You could also study by yourself using PTCB test preparation books, which is what i did. I also recommend using flashcard exchange, where you can find tons of practice questions!!

Quoted for truth - Also, as stated above. Certified refers to a person who has passed the PTCB and is a CPhT. The PTCB is a national exam. Licenses are granted by state board's of pharmacy. Each state had different licensing laws, so it would be pertinent to check your state before you begin the process to see what is required.
