I am interested in becoming a regular - allopathic - medical doctor, specifically an anesthesiologist. I want to know what is the specific name of the associate degree I will need before completing my bachelor degree.

Huh? No one cares about an associates. You'll need a bachelors for most schools to accept you anyway.

Are osteopathic docs still considered "unregular" doctors 😱

Wouldn't be worried about specialty, get into medical school.

No specific degree needed for your associates, not even required really. Focus straight towards the BS/BA.

If you are in community college then a associates in biology usually does the trick of getting your GenEd out of the way along with the prerequisites to the 4-year university.

Great question, OP. To become a regular doctor, as opposed to those quacks you see everywhere nowadays, you need to get an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in mechanical engineering. Why, you ask? Well, learning about stress, strain, and deformation of materials is of utmost importance for advancing your own methods of dealing with the high pressure environment that is medical school.

Since you want to be an anesthesiologist, you should also consider a double major in evolutionary biology, since you need to learn how to be put to sleep before you can start anesthetizing other people! Doing so would greatly increase your chances for your top choice residency. Don't go for the bachelor's degree; it's so overrated and you should forget about it.

In short, your diploma should say: "Associate of Arts in Mechanical Engineering and Evolutionary Biology from Podunk University." It MUST say this! You will not have a chance at med school otherwise.

Solid advice. Couldn't agree more. 👍👍👍

No, to be a regular doctor you need to successfully complete medical school, at least one year of post-graduate training, pass the licensure exam and eat whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans and legumes and get lots of fluids, particularly water, every day.

You just need an associates degree in anesthesiology.

I'm guessing that at least ten people reading this thread will significantly change their eating habits as a result of this statement

LizzyM I vote that this should replace the Playboy advisor quote in your signature

Is this for real?

Agreed.

Is this for real?

The sad part is, perhaps yes. These unintentional trolls are just sadly and highly misinformed high schoolers who will be in for a big surprise when they come into touch with reality.

But more likely than not, it's a troll post. Which is why even LizzyM is trolling with us! 👍

This belongs in the uninformed premed thread.

Hey guys, don't be mean to OP. At some point, we all also didn't know what it took to become a doctor. Come on, we weren't born with that knowledge, now were we? You have to find out at some point, okay? Stop bullying and being mean.

Anyway, to answer your question OP:
You don't need a specific associates degree to become a doctor. What you need is a bachelors degree from a 4 year university. You can major in anything, but you have to take the pre-med requirements:
1 year of biology
1 year of gen chem
1 year of physics
1 year of ochem
some schools also require a semester/term of biochem, and a semester/term of genetics.
Ask your univ

You are totally correct. I find it funny how people in the know, no matter what the topic, get this way- obviously it's worse with the anonymity of the internet.

Sorry, my last post got cut off a bit. OP, after you get your bachelors, you go to med school for 4 years, and then you do a residency for 4 years. So in total, it would take you 12 years after high school to become an anesthesiologist.

It's called the search function. It's better for him to do some research before actually asking it. This isn't bullying by any means. Some point in college and the future, OP and other students like him are required to conduct similar search on a particular topic, and asking questions without doing any search won't always end nicely (hint: they will be ignored). Plus, it's been stressed so many times by other members to use the search function before posting. We have stickies (and my sig) for a reason.

Not bullying...what is the proper name for it?

It took A LOT longer for the above people to condemn the OP rather then to point him/her in the correct direction. Not everyone has 12K+ posts worth of experience on this forum.

You can recycle the same 12K mockery if you want to (which is irrelevant). But my point still stands. OP and others like him must use the search function before posting such types of threads.

Still waiting for the answer to my question.

I already said it twice, but to sum it up clearly and to kill this continued hijack, this isn't bullying. This is being honest with OP. Continuing this discussion will only cause us to repeat ourselves.

Unfortunately many people around these parts want to be a physician SO BAD to the point of making ridiculous life-altering decisions to do so and yet are incapable of spending 5-10 minutes researching answers to their questions. Most of the time these kinds of things could've been answered by typing in the question/thread title into Google. That would actually require effort though. 🙁

The question was actually: "If the above wasn't bullying, then what was it?" You don't have to answer it.

No matter how you slice it, it's better to give constructive advice over mockery. I just don't feel the need to be discouraging. Do you disagree?

I actually forgot that was to you that I made that post-comment- however, that was mockery you earned.

Agree totally- which is why I believe people should be pointed in the right direction, not berated for being naive.

BlackBox, I agree with you 100%. Some people on here treat this forum like sitting at the cool table at lunch. If you don't know everything about med school, then you will be mocked and ridiculed. This makes others uneasy asking questions on a forum dedicated to help students receive information. Does it really bother you AgentB that the same question may be asked multiple times? If so, it can't be because of wasting people's time and taking up space on the forum, which is what your ramblings in the social thread and random emoticons do. You need to be more humble; you DO NOT know the answer to everything. If a question gets asked for a second or third time, since you more than likely commented on it (12,000) you might as well be polite and answer it again. You are doing more harm than good, and as an outsider looking in, enough is enough.

Side note: 90%+ of AgentB's created threads start with the same line saying that he/she is sorry for asking this question if its been asked before, but.....
What if someone humiliated you in your threads lime you do? The search function is there for a reason? So what? You are supposed to be helping people, not harassing them. And I'm pretty sure your comment on how the op should use the search function because he will need to do research in college is ridiculous. Online forums are not real life AgentB.

Your other thread already got closed. Stop spamming this ****.

Why are you so oddly obsessed with AgentB?

I have noticed an increase in the lack of respect that this message board has generated, and AgentB is at the top of the list. This message board has gone from helping people out with important life decisions (such as school) to who can make the most sarcastic response. I simply want this to return to a forum where not every question is met with snarky comments and being plain out right rude. This is a message board for professionals; it'd just be nice if people would act as one.

Lead the way by posting under your real account rather than a burner account (against TOS, by the way) made specifically to spam the forums over problems you have with another member.

I take offense to that statement. Please probe carefully through my post history with your generous time before making generalizations that offend the rest of us trying to gun for the A-list.

Again, not being a troll. And Mcloaf, I'm not violating anything, because before this, I never had an account. I enjoy interesting topics regarding the medical field, since it is how I make a living. It ashamed me to see how immature a majority of you all have been. Yeah it's fun to goof off; but the frequency and how it's being carried out is unacceptable in my eyes. Would you want your dean or adcoms to read how you talk when anomonyzed? Just be considerate of others on this site; they could be your future colleagues.

Actually, call out threads are a violation of TOS. Just a heads up.:lock:

Thanks and I realize this since Ismet locked my thread. I see how it looked like a call out thread, but I'm not actually looking to argue with AgentB. If he/she responds to my comments, it will be difficult, but I am not going back and forth with him/her. I have been reading these comments for a while now, and some of the recent ones pushed me over the edge. I'm actually surprised that I'm the first to bring this up regarding his/her behavior.

Can we have an AgentB vs AgentQ Battle Royale thread?
