Hey, fellas,

First time poster. It seems like the majority of the people are familiar with the application process and what is the most ideal situation.

My question is what is is the importance of submitting the AMCAS application as early as possible? I have still not submitted my application, and I don't intend on submitting it until the 14th or so. Would that hurt my chances?

The reason why I haven't submitted it, is because I want to be sure that it is 100% perfect (from my perspective) before submitting. I am taking my time with the personal statement, and work/activities section.

Maybe my meticulousness with the application will outweigh/balance out the mid-august submission?

Thanks, guys, good luck to you all. 🙄

Most schools have rolling admissions. It takes 5 weeks for AMCAS to verify. Thus you won't be getting stuff till late september. This will make it harder to get interviews

Med schools have rolling admissions. The sooner you submit, the sooner you can get an interview invite and the sooner you can be accepted. Some people get accepted in October btw.

Oh, gotcha...

Well damn. But this won't HURT me, right?

Getting your app in early - when the most number of interview slots are available while the least number of apps are available for review - is especially important if you have a lower-than-average quality app or even an average app (if you're trying to get into a "reach" school). If you have a decent app, being complete in mid September likely won't hurt you. If you have a strong app it definitely won't. If you have a weak app, though, yes, it will likely hurt you as the competition for interview slots gets stiffer as the cycle moves along.

Awesome, thank you for the feedback. Well in that case, do you mind looking at my "what are my chances?" thread? Let me know if I am in trouble here.

Your app looks decent, so assuming you do a good job filling out the AMCAS and describing your experiences well, I don't think it'll hurt you all that much. It's hard to generalize so broadly, though.

Gotcha. Thanks, man. 😀
