what is the point of sumbiting our photo to school? I don't really see any point other than that adcom uses "good looks" as a criteria. 😕

They probably want to connect a face with the facts.

Send in your porn photo

I can think of two reasons.

1) It allows discrimination based on appearance of age, ethnicity, or general attractiveness.

2) They can match your face to the person if you get an interview so that they know they are talking to you, not some pro you hired to ace the interview for you.

so they know what you look like... duh.

it is to match it up with the photo taken at your DAT

I called a school to inquire as to why they wanted a picture. They said it is to associate a name with a face at the interview and other materials. I don't see what difference it makes. If a dental school wants to hear about how well-rounded and fascinating an applicant is and then reach an admissions conclusion based on jail ink or bad hair. However, I didn't get an interview at the school I called about the picture.

I think it makes sense to ask an aplpicant to bring a pic for their interview, so afterwards they can better remember who you are after they met you. Why some schools want a pic when they might not even call you for an interview I don't understand.

I had a current dental student tell me that when I sent the thank you note after the interview that I should put another copy of my passport photo of in it.

I can't remember if it was just a story that an ADCOM was joking about or if it was a true story, but I think I heard about that actually happening once. I only remember I was at a meeting where an ADCOM was talking and they were explaining why they need photos and related this story. I forget if it was hypothetical or real.

Have you ever tried interviewing more than 10 people for a position and kept all their names / faces / interview questions straight? I have, and it's tough without pictures to look at.

Sometimes just looking at a picture will remind you whether you liked or didn't like that person.

Thay want to make sure you dont have a spider tattoo on your face or someone's name on your neck. Or some bizarre peircing.

Uglies in one pile, beauties in the other...guess which pile gets interviewed!:meanie:

I don't know if you noticed the majority of the interviewees are good looking guys and girls, perhaps the dschools not only want them to be bright but also good looking.

opinion #2: they don't want a gigantic 300-pds @#^$&*% to represent their dschool.

But we bright people ARE good looking, aren't we?
