My friends sister completed her +2 and she wants to pursue a DDS degree in US. I want to know about the exams she has to give for applying to the dental school and which schools will accept international students for the 4-year DDS program?
Thanks for the help in advance
Generally, all dental schools in the US that accept international students, expect a degree in some major. If dentistry is her only aim, then, the best would be to do dentistry in her native country and in the mean time prepare for her part 1 and part 2 national boards and also get a bunch of clinical experience during her internship.
But if her aim is to do DDS in the US, for which chances are very meek if she is just a high school graduate, she has to take the DAT (Dental admission test) in the US and also complete certain prerequisites, 2 semesters of each, which are college level courses like general physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, english and biology. Apart from this, most universities expect the candidate to have finished some higher level courses like physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, cell biology etc. These courses should be approved by the ECE or WES (if taken in a foreign country) which are credential evaluational services. She should try to achieve a GPA of 4 for keeping up to the level of competition here. You could look up the ADA (American Dental Association) website and look at the list of schools ... which is just 56 and look at what each school requires. That would give you a better insight to dentistry in the US.
Otherwise, she could come here for some undergrad courses and do a major in biochemistry, molecular biology, economics etc and then apply for dental schools. For this she has to take the SAT ( I think).
Hope this helps. If you want more info let me see if I can help.
Good luck to you and her!!!
