Hey everyone. Loving the SDN forums. Been reading for months now. Heres a little background information on myself. I am currently a Biology student (B.S) getting all of my prerequisites for med school admissions. I was previously a criminal justice major and had a low GPA (2.3.) I have had pretty consistent grades, basically having between a 3.2 and 3.8 every semester with practically all science courses. So I figure I'll have a 3.3 to a 3.5 overall with a 3.5 science when all is said and done. I do well on standardized tests and just for arguments sake, will earn a 30 on the MCAT. I know this will be a pretty decent set of marks for NYCOM in my research. I am also a NY resident. Currently I am volunteering as an EMT and have received a few awards and am part of a committee as well. My question is, I will be graduating in three semesters, in the Winter 2009. I assume there is a time-line for admissions which is unique for each school. Where do I find out when I need to do everything? Since I am graduating in an off semester, is there anything I can do in this extra time to benefit myself for med school? Since I will have over two years of EMT experience by the time I graduate is there any additional experience, other than D.O. shadowing, that I should look into? I just want to make sure I get into NYCOM for the fall of 2010. I know its a long road ahead, since I still have 2 chems to do, two physics and some math courses as well as some more biology electives to complete the degree but I don't want to waste any time, or make my application any weaker than it should be. When is a good time to take the MCAT? When should I send in applications? All the help I can get is greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone.
