I recently got an invitation to apply for honor society membership. I am clueless what this is. Forgive me for ignorance.
their ewb address is magnacumlaude.org. they say they are independent of colleges.

Never heard of it. The only worthwhile honor societies are school-based. The best known / most prestigious is Phi Beta Kappa.

If you are indeed magna cum laude, note it on your app - paying some outside organization to recognize this otherwise "free" fact is a waste of money...
