Hey guys, thanks for being so welcoming.
My wait-list letter goes like this:
...At this point in time, however, we are unable to give you an offer for admission. You have been placed on our alternate list, from which, offers will be given at a later date, as positions become available. Please realize that the alterante list is not ranked...we offer limited numbers of acceptances until the admissions committee review processes have been completed.
...We interviewed 500 applicants from an applicant pool of almost 4,500. I am sure that you can understand the reality of the math when our class size us only 160...last year over 100 of our accepted students had multiple acceptances. This means that from May through the beginning of August, positions may become available. We will contact you as soon as we know the status of your position.
My letter never said that a quarter of the class comes off the list; it also didn't say that I have a strong chance of getting in (just like the letter I read on the board). Are your letters like mine?
Next, this is what I think/know/heard:
1) This past entering class (2005) had 9 extra students. From this board, I read this was due to a mistake of over acceptance. So if in fact they over accepted then how did they also manage to take people off the wait-list.
2) I think accepting 207 plus moving people off the list seems like too many people rejecting the school. I really don't think that many don't come to USC.
3) I have heard the list is ranked. Thinking logically about it, it seems odd to me that they would just match your profile with someone who rejected the school. Also maybe at the time that they wrote the letter, the list wasn't ranked. Maybe they numbered us after May 15.
Unfortunately, getting info from the CIA would be easier than getting info from the admissions office.
ANyway, this is what I know/heard and am thus now really confused. Does anyone else know extra info???
