what is up with online acls?

Has anyone taken acls online? I found a site where you take the skills part as a written test instead of a practical test. I have to re-certify. Do you take the test from your computer? Did you use your old acls book? Any info would be appreciated; thanx! dani

There are some sites that let you pay to recert ACLS on line. To my knowledge there are not any that allow an initial cert. However, these sites ask you to promise that you are recerting and not taking it for the first time. If you lie an pass the written test you get the same cert as anyone else. I feel that these sites are woefully inadequate for teaching ACLS. That said I must admit that I and many members of my group of emergency docs have used these sites to meet hospital requirements. The hospitals require us to have the merit badges (ACLS, PALS, ATLS) so that they get a break on their insurance. The silliness of requiring board certed EPs to keep up the merit badges aside (ACEP does not support the merit badges)http://www.acep.org/webportal/PracticeResources/PolicyStatements/certcred/AHAACLSCourse.htm
I don't suggest the online courses for anyone who is not very familiar with ACLS and does not use it daily.
